Video Guide to Obtaining a U.S. Visa
Generally, immigration to the USA is driven by three most common reasons:
- family ties, meaning there are relatives in America with whom one wishes to reside permanently;
- employment, as some Ukrainian citizens are aware that there are many job opportunities in America for people with various specializations and levels of expertise;
- investments. Conducting business also implies that one may need to stay in America for an indefinite period, which later turns into permanent residence.
For all the aforementioned reasons, an immigrant visa to the USA is required, which can only be obtained after submitting the appropriate petition.
Petition
Citizens who file a petition must necessarily send it by mail to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in Chicago. In exceptional cases, it can be sent to the Consular Section. The processing time for a petition depends on the type of petition and the service division handling it. You can find more details on the official website of the U.S. Embassy www.ukrainian.ukraine.usembassy.gov, in the relevant section.
Once USCIS approves the petition, it will be forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC) for further processing.
All necessary information regarding the NVC’s processing can be found on the Consular Affairs Bureau’s page.
After the National Visa Center reviews the petition, the documents are sent to the embassy of the applicant’s country of residence, and only then can one begin preparing for the interview.
