The Green Card Lottery is a visa lottery program that grants the right to obtain U.S. permanent resident status. All subsequent steps by the applicant must be aimed at confirming their intention to obtain a green card.

You can check the status of your application on the official website http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/. Winning the Green Card allows the lottery winner to immigrate with immediate relatives, choosing one of the relocation options:
- together with the winner,
- arrival after the winner,
- family relocation through family reunification with the Green Card holder.
DS-260 Form
The DS-260 form is completed online and submitted electronically to the Kentucky Consular Center. Each section of the form must be carefully reviewed, as once the “Submit” button is clicked, the applicant will not be able to make any changes.
Stage 1. Applicant Login.
Enter the case number from the green card winning notification. When accessing the form, indicate who you are – the applicant, an authorized attorney handling the case, or a third party. Enter the last name (as in the application), the primary applicant’s date of birth, and the lottery entry number.
Stage 2. Filling out Personal Information.
Provide full name as in the passport, and enter details according to the birth certificate. Indicate previous names and surnames (if changed), gender, marital status, city, region, and country of birth. On the next page, enter your country of citizenship, passport details (passport series and number, country of issue, start and expiration dates). If you have multiple citizenships, provide the details.
Stage 3. Filling out Contact Information.
- The system may request all addresses where the applicant has resided since the age of 16. In this case, list each address with the start and end dates of residence in chronological order.
- Current residence address (street, house number, apartment, city, region, postal code, and country of residence), month and year of starting residence at this address.
- Contact phone number, work number, email address, and all social networks used in the last 5 years.
- Indicate whether the mailing address differs from the residence address. The mailing address refers to the address where correspondence regarding the case will be sent.
- Contact address in the U.S. where the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services can send the green card after your arrival.
Stage 4. Family Relationships
- Information about parents – full name, dates of birth, city, region, country of birth, and their residence address.
- Contact information for spouse.
- Occupation of parents, spouse, date, city, and country of marriage, whether the spouse is immigrating with you. If not, whether they plan to join later.
- Information about previous spouses, if any (full name, date of birth, date of marriage and divorce, reason for marriage termination, and the country where the marriage ended or was dissolved).
- Information about children: biological, adopted, or stepchildren, as well as children of your spouse from previous marriages. Full name, date, place, and country of birth, whether the child lives with you, is immigrating with you, and if not, whether they plan to come to the U.S. later.
Stage 5. Visits to the U.S.
Provide information on the last five trips to the U.S. and details of previous or current U.S. visas, as well as any lost or canceled visas, visa denials, or entry refusals to the U.S.
Stage 6. Employment.
Enter current employment details – field of activity, name, address, and contact information of the employer or educational institution. Be sure to select the field of activity you plan to pursue in the U.S.
Stage 7. Previous Employment.
List all jobs and employers for the past 10 years in chronological order – names and addresses of employers, company contact number, supervisor’s full name, start and end dates of employment in day, month, and year format.
Stage 8. Education.
Provide education details, name of the educational institution, address, degree major, type of education, and dates of enrollment and graduation.
Stage 6. Employment.
Stage 9. Military Service.
Provide information about military service and work with chemicals, work in charitable organizations, political parties, and student organizations.
Stage 10. Health.
Information regarding tuberculosis and whether you have documentation confirming that you have received all vaccinations required by U.S. law. The list of required vaccinations can be found on the official website.
Stage 11. Security and Personal Information.
Stage 12. Additional Information.
Enter the social security number (available to those who have traveled on work and travel visas and other immigration visas) and answer whether you need a new card. Then confirm that you give permission to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to enter your data into their system.
Review and confirm that all information is entered correctly. After which, the applicant receives a barcode of the completed form and a form number, which will be needed to track the status.
