Reissuance of a U.S. visa without an interview

Some applicants who have previously traveled abroad are eligible for a U.S. visa without an interview. They have the right to renew their previous permission to stay in the country at the embassy or by mail. This also applies to individuals under 14 and over 80 years old. All that is required is to meet certain requirements of the U.S. immigration service. Individuals who have not previously undergone the biometric data collection process must visit the United States consulate. By bringing your passport and some documents, you can obtain a new visa on any Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, except on official Ukrainian and American holidays. If you have already submitted fingerprints, you can renew your travel authorization by mail.

Requirements for Applicants for a U.S. Visa Renewal

Renewal of a U.S. visa without an interview is permitted for applicants who meet the following embassy requirements:

  • Possession of Ukrainian citizenship.
  • The category of the desired visa matches the previous one.
  • If you are applying for a B1/B2 or C1/D type, and the previous visa was issued for 5 years, and its validity expired no more than 4 years ago or is still ongoing.
  • If you wish to apply for category I, and the previous entry permit was issued for 3 years, and its validity expired no more than 4 years ago or is still ongoing.
  • If you want to open an F or M visa, you must participate in the same program, even if you changed educational institutions, or continue studying at the same institution in a different course. Also, you need to have a valid stay permit in the country or its validity expired no more than 4 years ago.
  • If you require an H, L (except for a visa based on a Blanket L petition), O, P, or R visa, you must present a valid stay permit or one that expired no more than 1 year ago.
  • You must meet the requirements for obtaining a visa under U.S. law, and your last documentation process did not include administrative processing.
  • You have no previous U.S. visa denials, or if there are, you were granted a travel authorization afterward.

Important. U.S. embassy officials may prohibit you from renewing your U.S. visa without an interview. This depends on the individual aspects of your request. In such a case, you will have to undergo a personal interview and obtain travel authorization in the standard manner. Consider this and plan your time in advance.

Required Documents for U.S. Visa Renewal

A U.S. visa: renewal is possible after collecting a specific list of documents. For each type of entry permit, it is unique, but you will need the following in any case:

  • confirmation page of the completed form (DS-160);
  • confirmation letter for the renewal of the travel authorization;
  • a valid passport, as well as the one with the previous visa (if these are different documents). If your old passport with a valid visa was destroyed, a certificate from OVIR will be required. In case of loss or seizure by state authorities of the passport, a special statement must be completed.

For individuals under 16 years old, you need to additionally prepare:

  • copies of the child’s birth certificate;
  • original notarized permission for the child’s visit to the U.S. from both guardians, along with a copy of the pages of each guardian’s passport and/or internal passport;
  • copies of the guardians’ visas or a certificate confirming the official status of the accompanying person.

You may not need to provide the original notarized permission for the child’s visit to America from both guardians:

  • In case of the death of one of the guardians, or when one of them is deprived of parental rights. You will need a death certificate or court decision.
  • If family members are applying for a visa, they should submit the visa renewal request together, with one confirmation letter and a package of documents.

Important. If you do not provide the full list of documents, you may not receive the ready passport on time. Visa processing times may be extended indefinitely. Additionally, you may be required to undergo the procedure on general grounds, including an interview.
