There are many types of entry permits to the United States. They are all classified based on the purpose of the upcoming trip to the country. Some want to visit for tourism, some in search of work, and others to visit their relatives, friends, or acquaintances. If your goal is to visit close people, you will definitely need a visitor visa. It is worth noting that obtaining a visa of this type, like any other to this country, is one of the most complex procedures, especially for an inexperienced traveler. More About the Visitor Visa: Types and Nuances of Obtaining

For trips to visit friends or relatives, a B-2 category visa is issued. Often, a combined B-1/B-2 visa is issued, which allows, in addition to visiting, also tourist and business trips. The U.S. visitor visa is issued for 10 years with multiple entries and allows staying in the U.S. for up to 180 days. However, the officer at the border may limit the duration of stay.

Obtaining a U.S. visitor visa directly depends on whether you have an invitation from relatives or friends. In some cases, the document can be issued without an invitation, but we recommend having it with you. Such a notification significantly increases the possibility of obtaining permission.

In addition, you will need to provide substantial evidence that you will return to Ukraine after the visa expires. Such confirmations for return are provided in the form of documents such as:

  • marriage certificate, child’s birth certificate;
  • documents confirming ownership of personal property in Ukraine;
  • employment certificate;
  • old passports if they contain at least one U.S. visa.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Step-by-step instructions on how to apply for a U.S. visitor visa:

  1. Carefully review the main list of documents offered for consideration below. Prepare the necessary documents and check if they meet the specified requirements. If you have any questions about this, contact our staff. We will point out all the shortcomings and missing documents.
  2. Pay the consular fee. The cost is 160 dollars. The fee can only be paid through “Raiffeisen Bank Aval,” after downloading and filling out the deposit slip. Payment is made in cash, in hryvnias, based on the current exchange rate. After making the payment, the bank will issue a receipt, the number of which is used for scheduling an interview. For more details, you can check here: www.ustraveldocs.com/ua_ru/ua-niv-paymentinfo.asp.
  3. Take a photo sized 50×50 mm. The image should reflect your current appearance and be taken within the last six months and meet the embassy’s requirements.
  4. Fill out the DS-160 form. The application can be found on the official U.S. embassy website and filled out directly on the computer. Filling is done in English, following the transliteration rules. This stage should be approached with special attention, as errors or inaccuracies in the application can lead to a visa denial. If you encounter any difficulties with translation or do not understand something, we will consult and explain how to fill out each item.
  5. Schedule an interview. This can be done either through the website or by phone, through the call center.
  6. Submit biometric data and attend the interview. More details about this stage of the application process can be found below. If you have additional questions, our visa specialists will be happy to answer them!

Document List

  1. Passport: valid (expiration date no earlier than 6 months after the end of the trip); 1-2 blank pages.
  2. One color photograph taken within the last 6 months, photo size – 50×50 mm, background – white or light gray;
  3. Printed form with a ten-digit barcode confirming the submission of the DS-160 application for review.
  4. Invitation from relatives, friends, or acquaintances in writing. It is written in free form, but the travel dates, place of residence in the U.S., planned places to visit, personal data, and status of the inviting person must be indicated. In addition, the letter should include guarantees of your financial support during your stay in the U.S.
  5. Proof of communication, family, or friendly ties with the inviting party (joint photos, correspondence, tickets, etc.).

Submitting Documents and Attending the Interview

You can submit documents to the U.S. embassy only after scheduling an interview. The submission process is quite simple, but only if you are well-prepared for the interview. A failed interview with an embassy officer is another reason for visa denials. In addition to providing all the necessary documents confirming your intention to return to Ukraine, you will still be asked many questions about this. Therefore, before visiting the embassy, be sure to consult with our specialists.
